Bay State Marathon
October 18, 1992 - Lowell, Massachusetts

Today I completed my first marathon, at the Baystate Marathon, in Lowell, Massachusetts.  I ran 3:35:00 for the 26.2-miles (two loops).  My folks drove out to see me finish, which was really cool.

Sunday, October 11, 1992

The final trail-race of the season was in Monroe State Forest, a 10.5-Mile event known as the Monroe Power Run.  I really cruised through the forest and finished in 1:34:45, good for 16th place.

Sunday, October 4, 1992

Today was the second Century Ride of the season, this time from Westfield, Massachusetts following the Westfield River over 100-plus miles...  the Great River Ride.

I rode my Specialized Sirrus over the 106.8-miles, reaching as far as Savoy and Windsor.  The final time for being in the saddle was 6:49:00, and that included a flat-tire repair.

Sunday, September 27, 1992

Today's trail-race  event was in my childhood hometown of Adams...

The Mount Greylock Gallop 10-Mile Trail Race.

The event was staged from the end of the Cheshire Harbor Trail at West Mountain Road, and climbed just below the summit of Greylock at the Hopper Trail.  We scooted down the Hopper, to Sperry Road, and over to the CCC Dynamite Trail to Jones Nose.  From there, the long journey on Old Adams Road to rejoin the Cheshire Harbor Trail back to the staging area.

I completed the race in 1:24:06, good for 22nd place.

Sunday, September 20, 1992

Another run with Dusty on Mt. Greylock...  this time Cheshire Harbor Trail to the Summit and back.

Strong run in 1:20:40.

Saturday, September 19, 1992

Run on Mount Greylock with Dusty, roughly 14-miles in 2:36:16 (Greylock Gallop Race Course plus a bit lost heading to Cheshire).

Sunday, September 13, 1992

Today was the introduction of the Wapack Trail Race, evidently a brand new event to the New England Trail Racing Series.  17.5-Miles including six-peaks to climb (in both directions):
  • Barrett
  • New Ipswich
  • Stony Top
  • Pratt
  • Nutting Hill
  • Watatic
I had my best trail race finish to date, despite losing the trail in the last half-mile and adding a bit of time to my clock.  13th place in 3:10:31.

Sunday, August 30, 1992

Out to the Happy Valley to participate at the Mount Toby 14-Mile Trail Race.

Finished in fine condition, and a surprising 22nd place overall, in 1:48:02.  The race is 7-Miles out, followed by the same 7-miles back, which I split between 58-minutes up, and 50-minutes down.

Sunday, August 23, 1992

First time running what would become, and always be, my favorite trail running event - the magical Savoy Mountain 20-Mile Trail Race

This was an incredible feeling of accomplishment, to navigate through the ups-and-downs of Florida and Savoy for twenty-miles.

I completed the route in 3:32:27.

Saturday, August 22, 1992

Saw David Byrne solo with Cool Cat and my Sister.

Sunday, August 16, 1992

Decided to ride my Specialized Hard Rock Mountain Bicycle over the Mount Greylock Century Bike Ride.  We had decent hill challenges over Greylock, Up and Over Route 2 including the Hairpin Turn, up the Hawley Wall, as well as an abundance of steady climbs on Route 9 and Route 116.

I completed the 99.15-miles in 6:34:43.

Day Two of our Savoy Mountain State Forest camping trip, some fishing at Plainfield Pond ended lucrative as we totaled 17 large perch and a big bullhead.  We ended up taking the fish to my folks and having a "fish-fry" which was attended by Tata, who polished off four perch.

Savoy Mountain State Forest camping trip with DL and Dusty.

Sunday, May 17, 1992

Next up on the New England Trail Running circuit is Soapstone Mountain Half-Marathon.  I felt fairly good throughout the race, and finished well in 2:14:57.  It began to feel as though I could do this trail-running.

Vernon Rabbit Run 5-mile road run in 33:03.

Sunday, April 26, 1992

New England Trail Running began for me at the 7 Sisters 12-mile trail race on the Holyoke Range.  Weather called for possible snow and ice just prior to the race, but other than it being cloudy and wet, no big problem.

This run totally wiped me out, but I finsished my first New England Trail Race in 3:03:06.
