Tunxis Trail Marathon II - June 30th, 2006
Barkhamsted & New Hartford, Connecticut

Today I completed my 35th marathon, Tunxis II.

This was the second time in 5-weeks that I marathoned along the Tunxis Trail...  this time, I used the southern portion down to Satan's Kingdom.

My time was 6:06:30, and I had Tippi along for company.  It was her 9th completed marathon.

Bands and Live Performances I've been a part of:

#5.

It may have been the end of our sophomore year, and Midnight Hollow got to perform in front of our piers onstage at the high school.

Mostly I remember the look on various staff's face when we played Louie Louie.

A friend, hearing us for the first time, got a great laugh out of our cover or Lotta Love, making it sound almost "metal" according to him (as he chuckled).

It seems like we knew about 30 or so songs, including some originals.  We would perform just one more time before things expired, which was sad for those of us who didn't continue to play music with others immediately after.

And from the Rock and Roll Heaven scrolls...

Peter Brötzmann passed away on June 22nd age 82.

He was a German jazz saxophonist and clarinetist regarded as a central and pioneering figure in European free jazz.

His 1968 Machine Gun became "one of the landmark albums of 20th-century free jazz".

Brotzmann co-founded "Last Exit".  This was an American free jazz supergroup, composed of electric guitarist Sonny Sharrock, drummer Ronald Shannon Jackson, saxophonist Peter Brötzmann, and bass guitarist Bill Laswell.

They were active from 1986 to the early 1990s, releasing primarily live albums recorded in Europe. Sharrock's death in 1994 caused the dissolution of the band, though touring of the band had not occurred for several years before his demise.

Tony McPhee, leader of the Psychedelic Blues Band "The Groundhogs". passed away at age 79.

I only began listening to The Goundhogs in the last 10 years of so, but at this point I have most of their records and enjoy them tremendously.  Rather than be sad about finding an interesting artist too late, I rejoice with appreciating the time I have had, even if late.

...Also on this day in 2010, I ran the Nipmuck Marathon for the 8th time.  It was my 46th marathon completed, with a time of 5:07:28.  This was good for 34th place overall.

Old News Department...

On this day in 1997 I completed my 15th marathon - Nipmuck.  It was the 3rd time I completed Nipmuck, and my time was 4:31:44, good enough for 42nd place.

Also, on this day in 2013, I completed my 51st marathon - Hawley Berkshire East.  I had Wuzzam with me for this one, which was a real beast.  We had a total time on feet of 7:45:15, which was the longest either of have ever been on our feet moving through the forest.  It was most likely more than a marathon distance.  By several miles...  (or more).
