Another trip to Adams, with both a nice visit with my folks as well as some snowshoe exploring.

This was a 15-miles venture with Dusty, completed in 3:41:27.

We covered snowmobile corridor paths, along Banis, Chapel, Tannery, Adams, Tower and a final go at Banis Roads before calling it a day.

Phelps Road south on the Metacomet with Dusty.  5-miles in 1:55:00.

This was a long run on snowshoes...   12-miles from Burlingame up to Brown Road, all the way to  the Fire Department at Savoy Hollow, before running the road home, with Dusty.  All this in 2:24:03!

Tremendously deep snow conditions, broke trail along the Metacomet from Phelps Road heading south;  4.4-miles in 1:40:00+.

Visiting my parents in Adams, took the big 'shoes out to "Little Egypt" for an 8-mile adventure.  

Climbed up along the Patton and Tophet Brooks in deep powder, used the snowmobile corridor to travel over to Tower 51 at Borden Mountain (Walker Tower), then rambled back to Burlingame in a little over 2 1/2 -hours, with Dusty.

New England Trail Championship at Mount Toby - 30km

Cool temperatures (40's & 50's).  Lots of rain preceding event, trails were wet and muddy.

Much of the route appeared to be in "creek-beds".

All in all, a difficult but excellent course - finished in 23rd place / 2:57:11.

(This would be the only time I viewed the old tree).

Hartford Marathon
October 14 1995 - Hartford, Connecticut

Ran the 2nd Annual Hartford Marathon today with RunSteveo, trying to pace him towards a Boston Qualifier.  We didn't make the cut-off, finishing in 3:42:02.  This was my 7th completed marathon.

Tunxis State Forest for 7.2-miles in 1:19:24.

Route 219 to base of Pine Mountain with Dusty.

Explored Enders State Forest afterward, unbelievable number of impressive waterfalls!

Hawley - Dubuque with Dusty for 9-miles in 1:51:46. 

Monroe State Forest and the annual 10.5-Mile event known as the Monroe Power Run.  

Very slippery and wet throughout, finished in 1:34:36, good for 14th place.

My third attempt at the Broad Brook to Shenipsit State Forest 20-mile road run as marathon prep training.  Once again, had the company of RunSteveo for the duration, and we completed the run in 2:36:41.

Awesome day, very memorable.

We really struggled finding the trail-head, God Bless Steveo's parents for sticking with us, and allowing Dusty to tag along.

There was no snow in the Snow Hole.

Our cockatiel "Louie" died today.  We inherited him from my Sister and Cool Cat a while ago, and enjoyed his company a great deal. I believe he was with us at least 3-years, and lived for 6 or so previously.  "Louie" loved to eat popcorn with me...  I'll miss him.

Vermont City Marathon

May 28, 1995 - Burlington, Vermont

I achieved my Boston Qualifier today at Vermont City in Burlington, Vermont.  I was able to dip under the age group setpoint of 3:10 with a 3:08:00.

At two-miles I was at 16:40, which was pretty far off my necessary 7:15 per mile to achieve the sub 3:10 finish time.  This means I ran 7:05 pace for the final 24.2-miles.

Dropped Dusty at Folks, getting ready for an attempt at qualifying for the 100th Boston Marathon.

Soapstone Mountain Half-Marathon Trail Race

Finished in 1:52:58, about 3-minutes slower than last year, but I picked up several places to end up 23rd or 24th overall or so.

It was a warm 80-degree day,  I walked up Soapstone the second time, as my time wasn't good enough to push it.

1st Annual Moby Dick Marathons
February 19th, 1995 - Lanesborough, Massachusetts

The 1st Moby Dick Marathons were held.  This was my 5th marathon, with the 28-miles completed in 5:01:00.

It seemed like a good idea, but there are reasons why the event didn't last, especially as a 28 or 30 miler.  Bitter cold, difficult, no aid,  February on Greylock....  seems like there would be many additional "whys".

This run was really special for me, it cemented my friendship with Paul.  We ran the entire event together, and began to dream up our snowshoe series.  Paul and I ended up roaming the woods together for a very long time, we see the same things in nature.

This day had temperature's near 50-degrees!  We completed the first 15-miles in 2:20, and the second 13-miles in 2:41.  What a day -

MLK Day - highlight today was #2 Uconn Women's Basketball Team defeated #1 Tennessee!
