2023 Unsupported "Non" Trail Race Unofficial Challenge #8
Hartford Reservoirs 12.9-Km (8-Miler)
Picked up the Metacomet (the New England Trail) at Route 44, just below Hartford Reservoir #6, and headed south past Reservoirs #2 and #3 along the NET.
Knocked off a Town I hadn't previously run in (Farmington), and snapped some photos at Kilkenny Rocks which were really neat.
Ended with 7.9-miles on the gps, easily under 2 hrs (averaged 4.5 mph according to the device).
Visited Marion Wilcox Park in Bloomfield today in the cold, damp, drizzle.
I have run through the park in the past, at least making to the picnic area once (years ago with Tippi).
Today was rewarding as the trails are nicely improved - I went up the ride from east to west to join the Metacomet (New England Trail) for a few feet before heading east and south to hit Wintonbury Road area at the north end of Penwood.
On the return, more time on Metacomet but an alternative route back down to Wilcox.
3.6-miles on the easy effort side for me today.
I am sixty-years old, so it's time to ramp up medical baselines, etc.
Today I visted Radiology for a CT Coronary Calcium Score without IV Contrast as a means to produce pictures of the coronary arteries to determine if they are blocked or narrowed by the buildup of plaque – an indicator for atherosclerosis or coronary artery disease (CAD). The information obtained can help evaluate whether you are at increased risk for heart attack.
Things went very well, as I scored a zero (0).
The extent of CAD is graded according to your calcium score:
Calcium Score | Presence of CAD |
0 | No evidence of CAD |
1-10 | Minimal evidence of CAD |
11-100 | Mild evidence of CAD |
101-400 | Moderate evidence of CAD |
Over 400 | Extensive evidence of CAD |
Bands and Live Performances I've been a part of:
#3.
During my sophomore-year of High School I played in the "Folk-Club". After our first performance at the Junior High School, we were also able to play for our classmates at the High School itself.
In addition to the previously listed "Best of My Love", "Stairway to Heaven" and "Smoke on the Water" from the Junior High performance, I know I was a part of a trio attempting a couple of songs by the band Rush (who and which I had never heard).
Only knowing the chords and notes being played by the guitarist by watching and listening, I improvised (faked) my way through on bass. It had to have been brutal for anyone listening with a knowledge of the orginal songs. Still, not being afraid is important in adventures.
Running fairly regularly, but not many climbs to speak of other than...
